What we’re really learning
One down, six to go. Taking tests is a skill more than anything else, and by the time we’re done with this university gig, we’ll all be practiced experts. It’s really odd, suddenly having all of this free, unstructured time. It’s nice to take a few days to recharge the batteries, sleep for a few more hours than normal, watch some brain-rotting cable TV, learn that Mr. T is doing commercials for World of Warcraft.
Of course, one of the keys to good exam-writing is being relaxed. Just like that is one of the keys to good interviews. Of course, I have also managed to prove that being too carefree can lead to horrible interviews. Then again, interviews, just like exams, are an acquired skill. It seems odd to judge a person’s ability to perform a job on the basis of the strength of a more-or-less completely unrelated skill. Perhaps that’s why I sometimes have trouble taking the idea seriously. Looks like I’ll just have to start being a little more down-to-earth though.
Christmas shopping always gets me. I won’t reveal any gifts here, just in case, but I couldn’t resist getting myself an awesome hat - it’s a wool pilot hat with a beaver face and even a tail. Glee! The main problem is financial - I have to be careful to leave enough money around to survive the next four months. Self-discipline is the key to a happy life. That explains why I’m so gosh-darned unhappy all the danged time.
In any case, most of my energy these days must, by necessity, be concentrated towards the successful completion of my final exams. I’ve held myself back for long enough, and I’m not about to fail a course and end up another year behind.
